January 6th A beautiful day and the Mediterranean so blue. Went down to the Casino and met some of our boys from Base # 26. General Pershing arrived inspected the building and made a short speech. We received a bow and smile from him. In the afternoon took a car up to the old church and monastery at Amiez passing the statue of Queen Victoria which stands in front of the hotel in which we used to stop. Strolled along the boulevard and in the evening attended the entertainment in the casino. Drank a cup of tea in the British officers' club opposite the casino.
