Letter No. 22 November 11th, 1918
My dear Family,
LA GARE EST FINIS!!
I don't know just when we sail for home but undoubtedly we will be there for Christmas dinner? !! Surely now that TNT is no loner needed you will send us turkeys and cranberry sauce in case we have to stay here a few months loner! Well it ended almost as suddenly as it began. Would love to be in London tonight to see if they are taking the Finis as calmly as they did their entrance into it four years ago. You remember the crowds in Downing Street and Traflagar Square Fanny?
Such shouting, marching, and music by the band as there has been in this camp today. You can imagine the noise 18,000 people rather closely quartered are capable of making. I'd like to be in a city for a few days.
Our PW's seem quite happy over their loss even admitting defeat was the next thing for them and already betting on who will be their president.
Wrote you on November 4th and believe I forgot to number the letter. Have lost records but received letters from you of October 3, 7 and the last was the 17th. That us such a good Kodak picture of you, mother, taken with Frances. I think the nest you ever had and has been greatly admired! I think I receive all your mail, I know I do F's letters as she numbers them. Received a bunch of magazines yesterday, several from Uncle that had been held up and Life from Fan. Must write Alphonse a card tonight to see if Charles is safe. The fighting must have been terrific recently.
Three more of our nurses have gone to Nice for a weekend and two went to Lyon this morning for four days. Am half through with my term of night duty. Shall probably be given a couple days off to take a little jaunt somewhere.
More rain and have not been on the bicycle this week.
Dinner is served.
Perhaps another week will finish censorship of our letters.
Affectionately, Jane.
