Letter No. 10               France      Aug. 6th, 1918
My Dear Frances,
I hope this is at the Normal to welcome you upon your return to work.  It does not seem possible that you summer vacation is a thing of the past.  There will be no boys in the school this year so I hope your classes will be smaller.  Do not work too hard and give Marion the same advice.  Marion's letter has not arrived.  I fancy she is having too good a time in Tennessee to write.
We have been very busy but got extra help yesterday so are getting our time off duty.
I wrote you of the men of a base hospital arriving some weeks ago.  Their nurse joined them recently and part of them came on duty in our wards yesterday.  They have a most thrilling time coming over, running into a nest of submarines, and getting several without losing a ship of their big convoy.  Our trip was very tame in comparison.
I wrote you recently asking you to send me the Saturday Evening Post.  Wish you would send Life with it.  Wrap them up together.  I'll write Margaret to give you money for the subscription, but you may as well read them before sending them on.  The boys enjoy Life also the Mirror  which Harry Skelland sends me.
The last week has been cold and rainy, and consequently 'sticky' underfoot, but hope to walk to the village of ----------- tomorrow to do a little shopping.
Where are you living this year?  I haven't received the catalog you spoke of sending me last May.  You did not tell me where you spent the Fourth.
I trust you will excuse this mutilated sheet of paper but my paper is getting low and I do not believe they have much on -------------.
A canteen worker has arrived so we will have a canteen as soon as they can get supplies.  The boys are a hungry lot.  I hope the US government is making barrels of jam.  We get lovely white bread and the flour comes from Marshall, MN.
Do not send this on as I am writing home.  My love to Marion and write frequently.  Greet the Thomas family for me.
                    Affectionately,  Jane
