Friday Eve June 1st
My beloved Frances,
I was overjoyed to receive your letter this morning-also one from Margaret.  Marion was a darling to add her contribution.  Cannot quite make out whether you are making fun of my pictures or not!  Hope the roll I sent you turns out better.
Attended Grace church yesterday morning.  Miss Newbold came over in the afternoon and we took the ferry down river from 23rd St to see what big boats are in.  Saw two immense ones which seemed to be unloading.  There are as many lifeboats on the sides as there is room for and the hurricane decks seem to be covered with immense life buoys and rafts.  We may go over on one of them.  I wonder why the delay.  Miss Hogle, a St. B nurse, must be over ere this.  Her unit was to be attached to the BEF.  They all come to the Holly to register.  We have to report every three hours here and stay ½ hour so cannot go very far away.
I rode up 5th Ave to 55th St this afternoon and bought a record for our Victrola-Evans William's 'Molly Darling.'  Did you read of Mrs. Williams death from blood poisoning a few weeks ago?
Court Martial for the privates and dismissal for the nurse if we visit with any of our privates.  Only with officers may we converse!  Silly!  The orderlies in our hospital are mostly university boys.
Much amused by the clipping in the St. Cloud paper.  Am I the noted one in the family?!  Why are we never properly located.  Minneapolis papers had it Lakewood and Now Long Island.
Haven't received Mae's letter.  Perhaps she sent it to AEF.
Alice will be happy tonight, and one week longer for you and then nothing to do but enjoy the Ford.  When do you go to the house party?  I thought this was your last year of teaching and here you are looking up rooms for next year!
Is there to be a summer school as usual?  Should think it would be patriotic to ask all the students to our on the farms.
                         Affectionately, Jane.
